Originally designed for Steve Rice at American Kawasaki, the bike was built and then passed over to Ricky Gadson to race. Ricky Gadson had his hands full with his shoot out bike and his 600 and 750 bikes, so he was unable to race it. Kawasaki then gave the bike to Jim Carol who won the first, and only, top eliminator series in Prostar.
