YOSHIMURA F1 1988-'92

Back in 91′ Airtech was instrumental in getting the AMA to allow different styled bodywork to be used in the Superbike classes. Due in part to our petitions to the AMA Airtech was able to design new bodywork for several different factory teams.

The whole assembly was used by Yoshimura at the end of the 91′ season and on some of their Formula 1 bikes.

In the old catalogue pictures with the girls, there’s a ’91 fairing on the left and a ’92 version is shown on the right.

This stuff is perfect if you are restoring a Yoshimura F1 or building your own GSXR replica version. We campaigned for this bodywork. It worked, and it will look gorgeous on your GSXR!

Ever heard of UFO? The “Unlimited Flying Object” was a popular series of articles in the then new Sportbike Rider magazine. We’re talking ’92 or so. Each issue, they would pit several street bikes against each other in three different shoot outs: LACR drag strip, Willow Springs Raceway and the Honda test facility in the Mojave desert. Builders could submit their bikes to the magazine editors for consideration. Bikes had to be street legal (lights etc.) and could not overheat, they actually had to drive around for 10-15 mins on the street right before the start of the competition. Several UFO bikes used the F1 assembly and Sims & Rohm took theirs to 208 mph – check out the pic with the girl in the pink bikini!
